Everything you need to know about the 2023 edition of the Alouettes

Danny Maciocia gives a satisfying review of the Montreal Alouettes’ last training camp.

He said so in an interview with TVA Sports on Monday.

“I think everything went really well. We are very satisfied with our stay in Trois-Rivières. We also see that the organization is moving in the right direction. This is what we have been wishing for for some time. The focus was therefore on the players and on the 2023 edition of the Montreal Alouettes. I think it’s promising and going in the right direction.

The Alouettes general manager also liked what he saw of the new players joining his team over the winter.

“We had several questions for all the players who left during the off-season. Our scouts have been able to identify players who could compete for spots on our starting lineup but also on our reserve team. I think they did a good job but there is still a lot to do. We are an organization in transition.”

Maciocia also admits his attention was focused on the receiver position during camp as his team needed to fill key dismounts.

“At receiver we lost numbers in Eugene Lewis and Jake Wieneke. I wanted to see who the three or four players that could help us are. We’ve been looking for a few Americans who we think can get the job done. Will they replace Eugene Lewis and Jake Wieneke? No, not in the first year, but I think it’s promising.

As for his new quarterback, the Alouettes general manager believes he has the tools to succeed in his team’s system.

“Cody Fajardo impressed me with his leadership in the dressing room. He has to be able to trust the players who are with him on the pitch. He doesn’t have to take all the pressure. We have a good offense and good carriers. It will help us enormously. He needs to distribute the ball better and we’ll ask him to play with his feet to get out of the pocket.
