Christian Bégin is recovering better. For the first time since the surgery he underwent in March, the actor announced the news. Here’s the message he shared this morning.
“Montreal, June 7, 2023
On March 29th I underwent major brain surgery after accidentally undergoing a scan that kept causing headaches. The outstanding CHUM neurosurgery team led by the larger than life Dr. Michel W. Bojanowski removed a benign but worrisome tumor, the presence of which required prompt intervention and a minimum two-month disability period.
Everything went fine. I have been in the hands of an exceptional team of the highest caliber, well surrounded and loved, and now I am out of danger and getting back in the saddle wisely and safely.
It is with unspeakable joy that I took back my chair at Y’a du Monde À ‘Messe on May 31st to watch the final 6 episodes of our Season 7, in addition to filming our Christmas special in November.
I would like to warmly thank André Robitaille for so generously agreeing to stand in for me during my absence. A challenge he accepted – are we surprised?! – with grace, elegance and brilliance.
Thank you also to Télé-Québec (Nicole Sauvageau, Virginie Langlois) and to the entire YAMM team (Mylène Ferron, Marie-France Bazzo, Annie Spencer) for their understanding and unwavering support.
Many thanks also to the public of the “believers” who were also very concerned about me in this difficult situation.
It was with the same joy that I resumed filming the 16th season of Curieux Bégin. A season where the number of episodes will more than double as we will be shooting 25 shows.
Thank you again to Télé-Québec, Zone 3 (Brigitte Lemonde), Luc Rousseau, dedicated and accommodating producer, and to the entire production team, who showed great flexibility and understanding and were so kind to accompany me.
Endless thanks also go to Louis Morissette and Véronique Trépanier from the KO scene as well as the entire team around my show “The Eight Deadly Sins according to Christian Bégin” (René Brisebois, Chantal Lamarre)
Such a test invites reflection.
It is in this context that I reluctantly announce the cancellation of the remainder of my tour. A difficult decision for me, but determined by the demands of a show alone on stage.
Thank you to everyone who believed in me, trusted me in this project and showed their support by purchasing tickets.
A big thank you to Maxime Vanasse and the entire team at MVA for your unwavering trust, unwavering respect and unconditional support through all of this.
I’m fine, my head is full of projects and I’m super excited to find my way back to work and especially the people who make it so necessary, stimulating and meaningful. Once again. More than ever.
Thank you everyone, colleagues, comrades, friends, loved ones, family, members of the public for your immense support, deep concern and reassuring understanding.
My lover, who changes EVERYTHING, often tells me: “You are loved, my friend!”
And the air of nothingness, it helps immensely, it gives breath, impetus, meaning…
I’m back. Everything is fine, summer. Bit by bit…
