In the Sudanese capital Khartoum, the army and rival paramilitaries fought again today. A reporter for the German Press Agency reported that several building complexes in southern Khartoum were set on fire. In the area there are important gas storage facilities, a weapons and ammunition factory and warehouses for tanks and military equipment for the army.
A ceasefire brokered by the United States and Saudi Arabia between the warring parties expired late on Sunday. Since then, it is unclear whether the army and Rapid Support Forces (RSF) will continue their negotiations. The army is demanding that the RSF evacuate occupied hospitals, schools and private homes. RSF accused the army of intentionally delaying earlier talks.
In Sudan, the army led by President Abdel Fattah al-Burhan has been fighting the RSF of Burhan’s former deputy, Mohammed Hamdan Daglo, since mid-April. The two generals seized power together in 2021, but later split.
