The New York Yankees announced some news Tuesday that could hurt them badly in the days to come.
Manager Aaron Boone has confirmed that outfielder Aaron Judge has been placed on the crippled list with a ligament injury to his right thumb.

The 2022 American League MVP was injured in a spectacular catch in Saturday’s game against the Los Angeles Dodgers. By denying his rivals a hit, Judge ended his run in the bullpen (seen in the main video).
Boone did not provide details on the length of his star player’s absence.
“We can’t replace this guy in terms of both his leadership and his play on the field,” said third baseman Josh Donaldson, whose comments were reported by Newsday. We have to band together as a team. […] Hopefully we’ll keep winning games in his absence.”
Judge has batted .291 so far this season. He hit 19 home runs and drove 40 runs in 175 plate appearances.
In addition, the Yankees will be without pitcher Nestor Cortes for at least two weeks. The left-hander suffers from a shoulder injury.
