PHILADELPHIA (WPVI) – Smoke from wildfires in Canada is creating dangerous conditions in the Philadelphia area.
As a result, a number of events in the Philadelphia area and beyond were postponed, postponed or canceled on Wednesday.
Major League Baseball officials announced that Wednesday night’s series finale game between the Philadelphia Phillies and Detroit Tigers has been postponed.
The game was originally scheduled to start at 6:05 p.m. at Citizens Bank Park. When the gates were due to open at 4:30pm, the officials called off the game for the safety of the fans.
The game was simultaneously rescheduled to Thursday, June 8th.

It’s unclear if Thursday’s game will be rescheduled if conditions persist.
Schools in the area were also affected by the poor air quality. The Philadelphia School District recommended that its students and staff stay indoors and limit time outside, including field trips and outdoor sporting events.
Several schools in the surrounding suburbs and in New Jersey were released early on Wednesday.
Outdoor activities such as field trips and field days were canceled or officials moved these activities indoors for a day.

In South Jersey, Haddonfield’s Little League canceled games as a precaution.
The music venue at the McLaughlin Norcross Memorial Dell in Camden County was also closed Wednesday night. The canceled concert has been postponed to Wednesday, June 14, according to the authorities.
The smoky conditions will also continue on Thursday.
Eastern State Penitentiary will remain closed Thursday due to poor air quality.
Officials said both the Day Tours and Night Tours: Summer Twilight will remain closed but are expected to reopen on Friday.
