This morning, a huge trench was dug in the town of 1,100 people with the help of heavy machinery to protect the farms, which are only a few dozen meters from the forest.
SOPFEU workers are uprooting trees at the Senneterre industrial park, turning over the earth and pushing it back towards the forest to create a very large swath of fully cleared land intended to stop the fire should it approach and reach companies, notably Transport Allaire . that hires a lot of employees.
“It’s about protecting assets, people and infrastructure. We’ve put a lot of effort into it. There are thousands of jobs here. We have to save our assets,” explains Éric Allaire, General Manager of Transport Allaire.
Senneterre Mayor Nathalie-Ann Pelchat also told our journalist Yves Poirier that she would be digging trenches near 113 North, near residential areas, to protect homes.
