In Ukraine, the counteroffensive seems to have begun

Intensification of fighting was reported on several axes between Zaporizhia and Bakhmout.

After Russian claims on Monday that they repelled Ukrainian attacks and Tuesday’s Nova Kakhovka dam explosion, clashes and bombardments erupted at several points on the front line and behind Russian forces. After months in which positions remained fixed, the war that began last year seems on the verge of entering a new phase. “We do not have such information,” denied a spokesman for the Ukrainian army on Thursday and did not want to comment on the start of the operations. “Enjoy the silence,” the Ukrainian communication strategists had suggested in recent days. Silence is an enrichment or a protection against setbacks.

We shouldn’t expect a “new Cobra operation,” says a French military analyst. The operation had made it possible in July 1944 to break through the German lines with the front blocked. In Ukraine “there will be several attacks”…
