Travis Kelce has explained his machinations in the White House.
When the Chiefs visited the White House earlier this week, Kelce sneakily approached the podium microphone and began saying, “I’ve always wanted to do that…” before his quarterback Patrick Mahomes quickly swept him away.
On his New Heights Show podcast with his brother, Eagles center Jason Kelce, Travis explained the purpose of the whole charade.
“Of course it’s iconic how the President stands on the podium and how he addresses the public – my American compatriots. That’s all I wanted to say, dude,” Travis said.
Jason was surprised and asked his brother, “Is that all you wanted to say?”
“It is,” Travis said. “I wouldn’t have started with ‘I’ve always wanted to do this.'”

Jason thought if his brother had gone that route, maybe he wouldn’t have been slowed down so quickly.
“If you had started with ‘My fellow Americans…’ that would have been a real eye-catcher,” Jason said. “I don’t think they would have kicked you out. When someone gets on the podium and says, ‘My fellow Americans,’ it’s like immediately asking, ‘Okay, what is this guy trying to say?’”
Travis was aware he was being saved by his quarterback.
“Pat knew I was overwhelmed,” Travis admitted.
Jason agreed, “Pat knew right away he was saying, ‘There’s nothing over there.’ That’s a flanking move knowing Travis. He’s a flanker.”
Travis revealed he may have pulled this prank once or twice before, and Mahomes knew exactly what kind of ruse it was.
“He’s seen that before,” Travis admitted. “Kudos to Pat for stopping me from embarrassing myself on the podium in front of the world.”
