Boxing: an Eye of the Tiger Management Gala for the Outaouais

Eye of the Tiger Management (EOTTM) has enjoyed its final night out in the Outaouais region and will host a new event headlining boxer Steve Claggett at Casino Lac-Leamy on September 8th. We confirmed that on Thursday.

NABF Super Lightweight Champion Claggett (35-7-2, 25 KOs) is looking to improve his category placement and secure a place in the top 10 in the world. The Albertan, who won Alberto Machado in his last appearance, will be looking to impress audiences at Gatineau, who was treated to a gala last fall. The identity of his next opponent remains unclear.

“You saw the dragon roar on June 1st last year, but I haven’t shown my full fire yet! I’m excited to climb the leaderboard and look forward to gaining even more foothold on the world stage. With this title, I’m in contention for something bigger and I won’t stop until I’m where I want to be: World Champion. With my team in my corner and Eye of the Tiger behind me, I know we will get through this,” he said in a statement.

Some local talent including Alexandre Gaumont, Vanessa Lepage-Joanisse and Harley-David O’Reilly will also be in action during this event, which will be televised on ESPN+ in the United States. Additionally, Gaumont (8-0-0, 6 KOs) will deliver his first eight-round bout of his career. His father and trainer Marcellin does not hide his pride.

“The region knew its boxing hero in Gaétan Hart, whom I first met 47 years ago. He is a real source of inspiration for us. Now it is Alexandre who follows in his footsteps to revitalize boxing in Gatineau. His drive to win and all the effort he has put into the gym over the past few months will be reflected once again and we are delighted that Mr. Hart will be back ringside to see the next generation perform.” he off

Finally, Lepage-Joanisse (5-1-0, 2 KOs) will fight in front of his family for the first time since jumping to the pros. Fourth in the world in her category and seventh in the IBO heavyweight division according to BoxRec, she has enjoyed a meteoric rise since her return to the arena in March.

“Before I came back I wanted to get back in the ring, now my desire is to fight in front of my own world. It will be an unforgettable evening. Finally, the people of the Outaouais, including those of my adopted home of Mont-Laurier, can join my struggle. I’m training to build size while keeping my weight down, and I can’t wait to show you an even stronger, more explosive Vany in the ring.”

-Other protégés from the organization such as Luis Santana, Avery Martin Duval, Thomas Chabot, Christopher Guerrero and Jhon Orobio will also be in action.
