Jennifer Coolidge admits her ‘immaturity’ kept her from having children

Jennifer Coolidge has admitted her “immaturity” prevented her from starting a family.

The 61-year-old actress – who is currently enjoying a career boost thanks to her role in HBO series ‘The White Lotus’ – opened up about her choice in a new interview with Britain’s GQ – which featured her in the recent All-Star series ‘ GQ Heroes” stars cover.

As she reflected on her decision not to have children, Jennifer shared how her friends encouraged her to adopt, but she believed she would make a better stepmother instead.

The star attributes this to wanting to stay young at heart and admits that if she had welcomed children into her life she should have been “grown up”.

She explained to the publication, “I’m very, very immature, I think that stopped me from having kids because I’m kind of a kid.” If I had kids, I might have had to grow up. Maybe if I had kids I should have grown up.’

The star also shared that if she had children, she would “appreciate” her life in Los Angeles more, too, noting that she was “bored” with the place where she lives.

Meanwhile, Jennifer, who is currently single, also attributed her lack of children to her habit of dating intense men.

She shared, “I’ve never had a laid-back boyfriend who was just full of joy, you know?” Someone who laughs at all your imperfections. That’s never the person I choose for myself.’

Still, the actress has never lacked attention from the opposite sex, and Jennifer admitted last year that she slept with 200 people over two decades ago thanks to her infamous role as Stifler’s mother on “American Pie.”

With roles in films like Legally Blonde and American Pie, Jennifer is a household name for comedy lovers, but her role in The White Lotus catapulted her fame even further.

Her role as Tanya McQuoid in the high-end parody series received worldwide recognition, winning awards at the Golden Globes, Emmys, Critics Choice Awards and SAG Awards.

However, Jennifer admits that she almost didn’t take on the role for psychological reasons.

She told the publication, “I just kind of wasn’t in the mood.” [Was it fear of failure – or possibly success?] I was depressed, I was very depressed.’

She continued to reflect on her character’s demise in the show’s second season, adding that it may have been her “imagination” that contributed to the end of Tanya.

Jennifer explained, “I had encouraged Mike to tell an Italian story. I said I’d like to be in Italy or something, riding around on a Vespa while all these men reach out and try to light my cigarette.” That’s my fantasy. But then I guess that suggestion killed me.’

Jennifer Coolidge will be speaking at the GQ Heroes conference in partnership with BMW, taking place July 19-21 at Soho Farmhouse, Oxfordshire.

Meanwhile, Jennifer, who was set to host Saturday Night Live before the writers’ strike, recently caught up with The Bear star Jeremy Allen White as part of Variety’s Actors on Actors interview series.

She spoke candidly about her career as she reflected on what she described as her “fatal mistake” in the days of her early success in the late 1990s and early 2000s.

When asked if she had a plan aimed at long life early in her acting career, she admitted that she didn’t.

“Now that I’m old enough to really look back on my life and certainly my mistakes, I see a lot of them.” But I never had a strategy. “I just went from job to job,” she explained.

Jennifer continued, “I have to say, I made the horrible mistake of not riding the wave I had early on.” It was sort of the ’90s when I had Legally Blonde, Best in Show and American Pie. And then there was Cinderella Story and stuff.

“But there was a moment. “There was a wave I could have actually ridden, but I was really distracted.”

As for the distraction? “I started stalking guys,” she said.

“I was not paying attention. I just thought I had my whole life. I got some jobs, but I didn’t have a plan. And I think that was a fatal mistake on my part because it later took so long to get going.’
