Fake millionaire Serge Rivard is again charged with fraud for persuading a Laval woman and one of her friends with his beautiful promises.
“Wow! I’m so glad to hear that,” exclaimed Caroline Cloutier, who broke the news to us earlier this week. The Lavalloise was on the road in the fall of 2021 after meeting Serge Rivard.
Our investigative agency revealed earlier this year that Serge Rivard – posing under several false names – extorted thousands of dollars from women he had promised money, travel, houses and a life of luxury. These conquests were conducted online.
Thanks to this report, Caroline Cloutier learned the true name of the lithe talker she met on dating site Badoo in late summer 2021. The Laval woman lost money and a home after dating Serge Rivard, who then said his name was Charles Danny Quintal.
Serge Rivard is now officially charged with $5,000 fraud in this case. The alleged acts allegedly occurred between August 1 and December 15, 2021 in Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu.

“Justice will be done. I’ll go all the way! I’m ready to fight! I don’t want him to do that to a woman anymore,” pleaded the alleged victim, who had to seek refuge in a women’s shelter after her love affair.
The 59-year-old repeat offender was also accused of cheating on a friend of Caroline Cloutier’s, who allegedly loaned him around $11,000 in the fall of 2021.
Repeat scammers
These two new charges come on top of those of fraud, use of a forged document, false document and theft that Serge Rivard has been facing since December 2022. These offenses were allegedly committed between July and September 2022 on the site of two women, the son of one of them. One of these women had also met the scammer through Badoo.
Disturbingly, all of these crimes were allegedly committed while Serge Rivard was being released under supervision and on a number of conditions. After being sentenced to three years in prison for fraud in 2019, he was granted three conditional releases as of May 2021 despite posing an “unacceptable” risk to society.
On every outing, Rivard would have met women on Badoo, even though he was specifically forbidden from having accounts on dating sites.
Lose everything
Remember that in his conquests Rivard presented himself as a wealthy heir and owner of international companies. The 50-year-old, who claimed to be suffering from brain cancer, said he wants to bequeath his millions to his new flame and loved ones. But the speaker never had access to his accounts and it was his sweetheart who had to support him.
Depression, suicide attempts, anger, financial problems: these promises had dramatic consequences for some of the women who trusted him.
Serge Rivard was arrested at the end of December 2022 and has been in detention ever since. The court case was postponed to the end of July.
