Russian President Vladimir Putin said this Friday (June 9, 2023) that he would transfer tactical nuclear weapons to Belarus in July. The announcement came during a meeting between the leader and his Belarusian counterpart Alexander Lukashenko in Russia’s Black Sea city of Sochi.

The armament will start moving as soon as the camp in Belarus is built. According to Putin, completion should take place on July 7th and 8th. The information comes from Bloomberg.

As early as March 25, the Russian President announced that he wanted to station nuclear weapons in the neighboring country. The measure was a warning to the NATO (North Atlantic Treaty Organization) countries that are providing military support to Ukraine. Putin even compared the plans to US measures.

“There’s nothing new here: the US has been doing this for decades. “They have long stationed their tactical nuclear weapons on the territory of their allies,” the Russian leader said at the time. “They have allies in certain countries and train their crews. We will do the same.”

Lukashenko, in turn, offered nuclear weapons to “all” countries that join the union with Russia. “If anyone is worried, it’s very simple: join the Union of Belarus and Russia. “There will be nuclear weapons for everyone,” he declared on May 28.

However, the Belarusian leader did not provide any information on the terms of this partnership.
