Jimmie Allen Quits Record Label Following Second Sexual Assault Lawsuit

Jimmie Allen has been fired from BBR Music Group, the label confirmed to Variety late Friday, after a second woman sued him for sexual assault.

“BBR Music Group has severed its relationship with Jimmie Allen,” read the brief statement. “He’s no longer an active artist in his roster.”

The country singer was previously suspended from the label, as well as his agency and manager, after his former manager sued him for sexual assault and assault.

Allen denied his ex-manager’s claims that he raped and sexually abused her over the course of 18 months, calling the allegations “not only false but extremely damaging”. But less than a month after those first allegations, another woman came forward to charge Allen with sexual assault in a new lawsuit, in which the second alleges Jane Doe the singer secretly filmed her having sex without her consent or knowledge. Following this alleged incident, which occurred in July 2022, this woman filed a complaint with the police, according to her complaint.

After the first lawsuit in May, Allen was suspended from BBR Music Group; his talent agency UTA; and management firm The Familie, which has represented him since late last year. When the allegations first came to light in May, he was immediately fired by his PR team at Full Coverage Communications and has since been represented by attorney Andrew Brettler.

Variety’s first report on the allegations against Allen in May revealed that the singer was fired from Wide Open Music by his former manager Ash Bowers after the first woman came forward with her allegations of sexual assault. The separation from his longtime manager, who discovered him and catapulted him to superstardom, took place quietly at the end of 2022.

The story goes on

Allen was one of the most promising — and sought-after — performers in modern country music. When the allegations broke, his career ground to a halt and he has publicly apologized to his wife and children for what he describes as an “affair”. However, he has maintained his innocence and has denied any allegations of wrongdoing. (Allen and his wife, who is pregnant with their third child, announced their separation earlier this year before the allegations became public.)

Allen, who was nominated for Best New Artist at the 2022 Grammy Awards, hit No. 1 on country radio with three of his first four singles, a rarity for a debut artist in the format. He has been recognized with accolades since his breakthrough, including winning Best New Artist at the 2021 CMA and ACM Awards. Allen started out as a contestant on American Idol in 2011 and more recently has appeared on the American Idol singing competition show as a celebrity artist and mentor. Earlier this year he toured with Carrie Underwood on her nationwide The Diamonds & Rhinestones Tour. His ambitions extend beyond music: He’s appearing on season 30 of Dancing With the Stars and serving as a judge on Apple’s music competition show My Kind of Country, which executive produces with Reese Witherspoon and Kacey Musgraves. A frequent talk show guest, he has been portrayed as a family-friendly, all-American star, even appearing at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

The attorney, who is representing both women who are suing Allen separately, told Variety that she has been approached by other Allen’s accusers. “We’ve spoken to more women and I expect there will be more lawsuits,” she says.
