green class? Visiting a historical site? bike ride ? In a school in Badajoz, Spain, on the border with Portugal, the older students had to go on a class trip a few days ago. The school CEIP Lope de Vega had announced a cooking workshop on healthy eating for parents.
The workshop was actually organized by the local hunting association. Its aim was to promote game meat. On the program: slaughtering wild boar and deer, cooking the meat before eating. With this action, the organizers wanted to highlight the advantages of wild boar and venison compared to other types of meat, explains the Spanish daily ABC.
When the students’ parents learned the contents of the trip, they expressed their astonishment. The content of the cooking workshop was not explained to them in detail. And the hunting association was not mentioned.
“Things must be done well, in terms of the type of activity, allowing families to allow children to participate, or respecting hygiene measures,” Adríán Rodríguez, from the Parents’ Association, told EFE news agency.
In view of the increasing controversy, the school management decided to cancel this school trip.
