The police have launched investigations into an arson attack in which a residential building in Sainte-Thérèse in the Lower Laurentians was committed in the night from Sunday to Monday.

Authorities were called just before 1am after a fire caused by a Molotov cocktail had broken out in an apartment building on rue Bélanger, near rue Saint-Joseph.

According to the Régie intermunicipale de Police Thérèse-De Blainville, firefighters quickly brought the situation under control and no one among the residents of the site was injured.

Although only one apartment on the ground floor was the target of the fire object, the building with around twenty apartments was evacuated as a preventive measure.

“Once the fire was brought under control, affected residents were able to return to their homes during the night,” said RIPTB spokeswoman Karine Desaulniers.

A large perimeter fence has been erected to protect the crime scene, which remains under surveillance, according to police, who say no arrests have been made at this time.

Witnesses were received by investigators while a forensic identification technician specializing in arson sites is expected on site to determine the causes of the fire.
