Iran rejects attempted alternative to nuclear pact

Tehran, June 12 (Prensa Latina) Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Nasser Kan’ani today stressed Persian opposition to any attempt at an alternative to the nuclear pact, officially known as the Comprehensive Plan for Joint Actions (PIAC).

“The Iranian negotiating team never left the negotiating table,” Kan’ani said during a news conference, stressing that Tehran does not endorse the interim agreement or any new alternative.

In an update on the nuclear negotiations, Kan’ani said that exchanges of messages and diplomatic consultations with the other parties will continue at various levels through intermediary parties and friendly countries.

He reiterated that his country’s negotiating team continues to sit at the negotiating table in the interests of the Iranian nation, which Iran has never given up.

Kan’ani emphasized that “the Iranian side has always shown its serious willingness to engage in meaningful negotiations in order to reach a conclusion,” according to PIAC.

Iran and the 5+1 group (the United States, the United Kingdom, France, Russia and China, and Germany) sealed the PIAC in 2015, but Washington abandoned it in May 2018 and reinstated anti-Iranian coercive measures that violate that agreement had left .

As for the guarantees, Tehran considers it imperative to lift all sanctions imposed on Iran so that the country can reap the economic benefits prevented by the implementation of this measure.

The dialogue process to revitalize PIAC had a first phase in Vienna, Austria, and resumed after a three-month hiatus in Doha, the capital of Qatar, mediated by the European Union.

Iran has indirect talks with the US through this mechanism, as it has not been a current member of the pact since its unilateral exit from the deal in 2018.
