Ukraine wants Australian F-18 fighter jets

Ukraine has requested information from Australia on the condition of some 40 US-made F-18 fighter jets that have been decommissioned and stored at a base near Sydney, AFP said on Tuesday. Ambassador of Ukraine in Canberra Vasyl Myroshnychenko.

“There was a request for information,” Mr. Myroshnychenko said. “Ukraine is looking for fighter jet capabilities, including this one,” he added.

The United States in May gave the green light to future deliveries of American F-16 fighter jets to Kiev, which has been relentlessly urging it to counter Russian power in the air and attack rear troop lines in Moscow.

Germany will not be able to “replace” all the damaged tanks on the Ukrainian front.

Germany’s defense minister warned he could not replace all of the tanks his country had delivered to Ukraine and decommissioned during the fighting, while Russia claims to have captured or destroyed several of them.

“We will not be able to replace every tank that no longer works,” Boris Pistorius told RTL on Monday evening.

So far, Berlin has delivered or promised 110 Leopard 1 tanks and 18 Leopard 2 main battle tanks to Kiev.

Floods in southern Ukraine: Death toll rises to 17 in Russian-controlled areas

Russia on Tuesday increased the death toll from flooding in areas it controls in southern Ukraine to 17 after the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam on the Dnieper last week. The previous assessment by the pro-Russian authorities reported eight deaths.

“The deaths of 12 people in Golaia Pristan and five people in Alechki have been confirmed,” said the head of the Russian occupying power in the Kherson region, Andrei Alekseyenko.

The Russian army claims to have captured German Leopard tanks and American Bradley tanks

The Russian army on Tuesday claimed, with video support, that it had captured German-made Leopard tanks and US-made Bradley armored vehicles, which the West had supplied to Kiev for its counteroffensive, for the first time on the front lines in Ukraine.

“Leopard tanks and Bradley infantry fighting vehicles. These are our trophies now,” the Russian Defense Ministry said on Telegram, attaching to its message a video filmed on the phone showing several damaged military vehicles.

According to the Ukrainian military, Russia fired 14 cruise missiles into Ukraine last night

According to CNN, Russia fired 14 cruise missiles into Ukraine during the night from Monday to Tuesday and 10 of them were intercepted.

According to the same source, Ukrainian air defenses also intercepted one of the four Iranian-made Shahed drones fired by Russian forces.

Death toll from building attack in Kryvyi Rih rises to six

Six people died in a rocket attack on an apartment building in the central-eastern Ukraine city of Kryvyi Rih on Tuesday, according to a new report by local authorities.

“Unfortunately, there are already six dead. The rescue operations continue,” said Oleksandr Vilkoul, head of the municipal administration, on Telegram.

In the early morning, Oleksander Vilkoul had reported three dead, 25 injured and seven other people “probably under the rubble”.

Several Russian attacks on Kharkiv and Kiev last night

The Ukrainian authorities also reported Russian night attacks in Kharkiv (northeast) and Kiev, where the Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA), Rafael Grossi, is expected during the day.

In Kiev, the military administration reported night attacks by “cruise missiles” and at the same time ensured that “all enemy targets in the airspace around Kiev were detected and successfully destroyed”.

For his part, the Mayor of Kharkiv (Northeast) Ihor Terekhov announced that drones had been fired “against civilian infrastructure” and that a company premises and a hangar there had been damaged.

Ukraine: Three dead and 25 injured after rocket attack on a house

At least three people were killed and 25 others injured after a rocket hit a residential building in Kryvyi Rih, the birthplace of Volodymyr Zelenskyy, in Ukraine’s Dnepropetrovsk region (central east) before dawn on Tuesday, the regional administration said.

“A five-storey building was destroyed. According to initial information, three of its residents were killed. 25 people were injured and 19 of them are in the hospital,” said the Dnepropetrovsk regional administration on its Telegram account.
