American actor Treat Williams died Monday at the age of 71 after being involved in a motorcycle accident near Dorset, Vermont.
“It is with great sadness that we announce that our beloved Treat Williams passed away tonight in Dorset following a motorcycle accident,” his family said in a statement.
“We are all in shock. His family loved Treat. He was always the best for us, but also in his life and his work.
According to authorities, the actor is the only victim of this accident, which also involved a vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle reportedly did not see the motorcycle turning, Fire Chief Jacob Gribble told People magazine.
Treat Williams is best known for his role as George Berger in the 1979 film adaptation of the musical Hair. He was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for his performance.
He also starred in Steven Spielberg’s 1941 and Sergio Leone’s Once Upon a Time in America.
He is also known for his roles in the series “Everwood”, “Blue Bloods”, “Chicago Fire” or “Chesapeake Shores”.
He is survived by his wife, Pam Van Sant, and their two children, Gill and Ellie.
