How Kate and William paid tribute to the victims of Grenfell Tower on the 6th anniversary of the tragedy

The Prince and Princess of Wales tweeted a subtle tribute to the 72 victims of the Grenfell Tower fire on the sixth anniversary of the tragedy.

The fire that destroyed Grenfell Tower in Kensington in 2017 shocked the nation and led activists to call on the government to rid apartment blocks of flammable cladding.

As the Grenfell community banded together to show their support, their grief became synonymous with a green heart.

The Prince and Princess of Wales shared a single green heart on Twitter last night, showing their solidarity with the victims.

Since the tragedy in 2017, Kate and William have met with the Grenfell community several times – and her sister-in-law Meghan Markle has even collaborated with the community kitchen to release a cookbook.

As the Prince and Princess of Wales posted their subtle tribute to the Grenfell victims on social media, many green-hearted well-wishers also responded to send their solidarity to the families affected by the tragedy.

Last month, Prince William met with Grenfell survivors and loved ones ahead of the sixth anniversary of the Tower fire.

He visited Loftus Road, home of Queens Park Rangers FC, to learn more about how the club was supporting the families of fire victims in the wake of the tragedy.

Grenfell is less than a mile from QPR’s Loftus Road site in Shepherd’s Bush, west London, and the fire on June 14, 2017, which killed 72 people, shocked the nation.

The prince, who is president of the Football Association, also heard from former QPR and England striker Les Ferdinand, chief executive of the QPR at the Community Trust, on his organization’s response to the fire.

William also sat down with foundation-funded community and youth workers who support those affected by the fire in areas such as mentoring, mental health and personal development.

The prince, who is president of the Football Association, will also hear from former QPR and England striker Les Ferdinand, chief executive of the QPR at the Community Trust, on his organization’s response to the fire.

William will also sit down with foundation-funded community and youth workers who are supporting those affected by the fire in areas such as mentoring, mental health and personal development.

They discussed the impact the fire had on their lives, how football has helped and what the future holds for them almost six years later.

Last year William and Kate attended a memorial service to mark the fifth anniversary of the fire organized by Grenfell United at the base of Grenfell Tower.

He also visited his grandmother, the late Queen, in the days following the June 2017 fire.

He returned again with Kate when they met with survivors as part of the formation of the National Emergencies Trust in 2019.

Last year, members of the Grenfell community praised Meghan Markle for the work she had done in the community kitchen.

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry first visited The Hubb Community Kitchen in 2018 after the North Kensington Tower Block fire killed 72 people.

The initiative, which the Sussexes have long supported, was set up to provide support and hot meals to grieving families in west London following the June 14, 2017 fire.

Five years later, kitchen volunteers shared on their page how the Duchess of Sussex got in touch this week to ask about her well-being and to share news about her own children, Archie, three, and Lilibet, one.

They wrote, “Today is a day to look back, remember and reflect.” I just found this picture of us all the day our cookbook came out.

“The Duchess had packed a book for each of us and wrote a lovely message to each lady on the front page.”

The comment continued: “Always very thoughtful, today on the 5th anniversary of the Grenfell tragedy we received a lovely voice message from the Duchess asking how we are doing, about our children and families and any news of us telling her. ‘Just being her beautiful, kind self.’
