KIEV (Portal) – Ukraine has regained control of more than 100 square kilometers of territory as part of its counter-offensive against Russian forces, a senior Ukrainian military commander said on Thursday.
“We are ready to continue fighting for the liberation of our territory with our bare hands,” Brigadier General Oleksii Hromov said at a press conference.
He confirmed that at the start of the offensive, which Ukraine said began last week, seven towns in eastern Donetsk region and southern Zaporizhia region had been liberated.
The army advanced 3 km near the village of Mala Tokmashka in the Zaporizhia sector and 7 km near a village south of Velyka Novosilka in the Donetsk sector, military officials said.
Portal could not verify the situation on the battlefield.
Russia, which began the full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has not officially acknowledged Ukraine’s advances. Each side claims that the other side has suffered heavy casualties since the counteroffensive began.
Moscow and Kiev rarely comment on their own losses.
