Accident kills at least 15 in Manitoba –

At least 15 people have been killed in an accident involving vehicles and trucks on the Trans-Canada Highway in Manitoba.

According to multiple local media outlets, this serious accident happened on the Trans-Canada Highway near the town of Carberry, about 100 miles west of Winnipeg, Manitoba. CTV News reports at least 15 dead.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) and paramedics are on site. The wounded were evacuated, in particular, by air.

Manitoba RCMP tweeted at around 4 p.m. that all available resources were being used for the mass casualties on Highway 1. Western Manitoba units and the Major Crimes Unit were called to the scene to assist other first responders.

Between 1:00 p.m. and 1:30 p.m., the STARS Remote Area Ambulance Company also tweeted that responders from Regina, Saskatchewan and Winnipeg, Manitoba had been dispatched to an emergency site in Carberry.

Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau responded by tweeting his deepest condolences at the end of the day. “The news from Carberry, Manitoba is tragic,” he wrote. I can’t imagine the pain you’re feeling, but Canadians are here for you. »

Canada’s Conservative Party leader Pierre Poilievre also tweeted about the tragedy. “I am heartbroken by the news of the victims of the horrific accident that occurred today near Carberry, Manitoba,” he said. “I am heartbroken by the news of the tragic accident near Carberry,” Manitoba Premier Heather Stefanson wrote on social media. My deepest condolences to everyone involved. »

The RCMP had not responded to La Presse’s request at the time of writing.

Police are asking motorists to avoid the area and allow emergency vehicles to pass. Authorities said the highway was closed in both directions.

In 2018, 15 people were killed in a collision between a truck and a bus carrying young ice hockey players in Saskatchewan.
