Steam’s monthly poll results for May 2023 reveal some interesting facts, although almost all changes are below the 1 percent threshold. The only change above that number is the 1.09% drop in Oculus Quest 2 usage (to 44.05%).
The most popular operating system among Steam users remains Windows 10 64-bit at 60.51%, down 0.7% from April. Almost 52% of the tested computers use no less than 16 GB of memory. The most popular main screen resolution remains 1080p/FHD with a generous share of 64.33% (down 0.19% from April). The predominant resolution for multi-monitor setups is 3840 x 1080 pixels.
If we look at the long-term numbers published by Steam for the period December 2021 – May 2023, we see a 0.38% loss for AMD in the processor sector. Thanks to her, Intel now has a 67.52% share. When it comes to graphics cards, Nvidia leads with 76.37%, while AMD and Intel have to share the rest of the cake. The leading chipmaker now holds a 14.83% market share, compared to 8.59% for its competitor.
As you can easily see from these new Steam numbers, change in the hardware and software world takes time. The time of Windows 11 and the increasingly popular 4K resolution will come, but it may take at least a year before they arrive.
