Foster family: The DPJ clears their house and moves with their four children

Michel Morissette and Monic Beaudoin have been living a real nightmare since April 13th.

While they were abroad, staff from the CIUSSS de la Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec broke into their home to retrieve the four children in their care.

But apparently out of overzealousness, the DPJ also completely emptied the children’s rooms and took all their belongings with them.

“In 36 hours there was a report, then they came to evacuate the house,” lamented Mr. Morissette on Benoît Dutrizac’s microphone on QUB radio.

The couple are accused of leaving their two 11-year-old children, the 13-year-old girl and the 17-year-old teenager unattended for about an hour while their birth daughter takes the reports to the caretaker.

This constitutes a violation of foster care regulations, which usually only leads to a mere mention in the file.

The DPJ also prohibited them from having any contact with the children without giving any reason. While the pair were met by members of the DPJ last Tuesday, no satisfactory justification was provided.

“We don’t have the right to speak to children and we don’t even know why,” protested Mr. Morissette.

Michel Morissette and Monic Beaudoin have been caring for children for more than ten years.

They show a nearly perfect file. But since the events of April, they are now in danger of losing their status as foster families.

In order to shed full light on the actions of the CUSSS, Mr. Morissette requested that an administrative inquiry be conducted. The application was denied, but the shock was even greater when he was told the reason for the denial.

“I was told there would be no investigation as my contract expired in December 2022,” he explains.

And the couple wouldn’t be the only foster families in the same situation. This is undoubtedly an admission that raises many questions about the CIUSSS de la Mauricie-et-du-Centre-du-Québec’s management of foster families and the protection of the children in its care.
