The attackers at the school in #Mpondwe, #Uganda, say they belong to an Islamic group that has links with the so-called IS.

At least 25 people were killed in an attack on a school in Mpondwe in western Uganda. Eight other people were injured, police said. The victims would be mainly students who burned to death in their sleep. During the attack, a fire was set in a dormitory at the boarding school.

The attackers reportedly fled to the Virunga National Park in the neighboring Democratic Republic of Congo. The Ugandan army pursued the attackers and those responsible swore revenge.

Police blame the ADF (Allied Democratic Forces) group for the attack. The ADF would have links with the Islamists of the so-called “Islamic State” (IS or ISIS or ISIL). The group says of itself that it fights for the rights of Muslims in Uganda and wants to overthrow the government.

More recently, extreme laws against the LGBT community in Uganda have drawn international criticism.
