Russia on Saturday claimed it repelled a Ukrainian drone attack on an oil refinery in the Briansk region bordering Ukraine.

“Russian air defense systems in the Novosibkov district repelled a night attack by Ukrainian forces on the Druzhba oil refinery,” Alexander Bogomaz, governor of the Bryansk region, wrote on Telegram.

“Thanks to the professionalism of our military (…) three drones were destroyed,” he said.

Drone strikes on Russian territory and the Crimea peninsula, annexed by Moscow in 2014, have multiplied in recent weeks following the announcement of a counteroffensive by Ukraine.

Russia said Thursday it had neutralized nine drones over Crimea.
