EAST BOSTON, Mass. – A New England Patriots player was arrested at a security checkpoint at Boston’s Logan Airport on Friday night after two guns were found in carry-on luggage, Massachusetts State Police said.
Police said 25-year-old Arizona resident Jackie K. Jones was arrested Friday night, WCVB-TV reported. According to police, he had planned to travel from Boston to Arizona.
Police were called to the Transportation Security Administration security checkpoint in Terminal B at around 5:30 p.m. after two firearms were found in a traveler’s carry-on luggage. Police said they identified the individual as Jones and arrested him.
Jones is charged with, among other things, unlawful possession of a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, possession of a large capacity feeder and possession of ammunition without a firearms license, police said. He was arrested at State Police Logan Airport Barracks and posted bail of $50,000, police said.
It was not immediately known if Jones had an attorney who could comment on his behalf. He is scheduled to be charged in East Boston District Court next week, police said.
The Patriots confirmed the arrest in a statement.
“We have been informed that Jack Jones was arrested at Logan Airport today,” the statement said. “We are in the process of gathering more information and will not be making any further comments at this time.”
Jones begins his second year as a cornerback for the Patriots. The Patriots’ mini-camp practice session took place this week at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough.
