The 36th International Boleros de Oro Festival ends in Cuba

The 36th edition of International Boleros de Oro Festival will be completed today Cuba after several days dedicated to the glorification of this Cuban musical genre.

With presentations in this capital and in various provinces, the event brings together artists from Colombia, Mexico, Spain, Puerto Rico, Venezuela and Argentina, as well as the host country.

The program of galas and concerts promotes the approach to this genre of the national heritage and its file, together with Mexico, is in the preparatory phase for the bolero to be recognized as an intangible heritage of humanity.

The event, founded in 1987, dedicates this edition to the 140th anniversary of the piece Tristeza, the first bolero composed in 1883 by José “Pepe” Sánchez from Santiago.

It also commemorates the centenaries of the Vedette of America, Rosita Fornés (1923-2020), and the Dominican Alberto Beltrán (1923-1997), known as “El negrito del Batey”.

It also pays homage to Cuban singers Elena Burke (1928-2002) and Pacho Alonso (1928-1982) on the occasion of their 95th birthday and commemorates the musical importance of singer-songwriter and famous bolero performer Pablo Milanés , on his birthday 80

The festival becomes a favorable place for debates between musicians and experts who took advantage of the theoretical event to highlight the value of the bolero as a Hispanic-Caribbean heritage.

With its main venue in the Sala Covarrubias of the capital’s National Theater, the Music Encounter resumes its international orientation this year after the Covid-19 pandemic.
