Potential upcoming heatwave: hotter in Quebec than Miami?

From Thursday, temperatures of up to 30 degrees Celsius are predicted for the metropolis.

“We have good weather there, the heat is coming back this week. That’s good, because on Wednesday summer comes to the city, it’s summer solstice on June 21 at 9:57 am,” suggests meteorologist Gilles Brien right at the beginning in an interview with Frédérique Guay on LCN radio waves.

“It will be warmer, we will see temperatures of 30°C [°C] We may even be talking about a possible heat wave, i.e. three days in a row with 30 degrees Celsius.

However, the arrival of the warm air mass will not lead to precipitation in the regions affected by the forest fires.

“This is the second time we’ve had a rush of hot air from Manitoba in northern Ontario. Normally, warm, moist air masses come from the Gulf of Mexico in the United States. […] so it doesn’t take long. It starts on Tuesday, Wednesday, we reach 28, 29 degrees. Be careful, temperatures in the shade are to be expected,” he warned.

“Unfortunately, this does not bode well for western Quebec, where there is still a lot of instability and the possibility of flammability. The indices are very high and the heatwave will last until Saint-Jean […] with the humidex to 36, 37.”

While the Capitale-Nationale and the east of the province have seen a lot of rain in the past few hours, the heat is finally beginning to spread to those regions as well.

“The high pressure coming out of Ontario will do the trick. Quebec is likely to be hotter this week than Miami, with 32 degrees on Thursday or Friday […] This year we don’t have to go south, we’re staying in Quebec. The month of June continues to surprise,” noted the meteorologist.
