Sharing a team with his son, he retired and returned ten years later to compete against him as a rival

For a football dad it must feel great to see his son make his debut as a professional player. We have seen cases of well-known former soccer players such as Roberto Palacios who is always attentive and proud of what his son Brandon is doing in his sports career. Playing alongside him is another truly special achievement that few have achieved due to the age difference and the various factors that must come together to make it happen. However, there was someone in the Peruvian soccer that he not only managed to play with his son, but also against him.

Julio Flores He is a former Peruvian soccer player best known for his career in Copa Perú teams. Because of this, there are almost no records of his career. According to information from DeChalaca, the portal that first discovered and published the story of Flores and his son, he came to play in the first division with Sport Boys, Alianza Atlético and Unión Minas. The father-son confrontation between Julio and Junior Flores

Julio Flores is best known to Atlético Chalaco fans, having played for the team from 1999 until his retirement in the following decade. During this time he was able to share the dressing room with his son Junior, which is unusual in the world of sport. However, it is very likely that they themselves did not expect that many years later fate would officially bring them back on the field, but on opposite sides.

On Sunday, June 12, 2016, historic Atlético Chalaco faced another traditional Peruvian football club: KDT Nacional. However, the presence of both had nothing in common. The “León Porteño” found themselves in a severe economic and institutional crisis, which was reflected in the fact that they could not field even 11 players in their first game for the Callao District League. KDT, in turn, stood out for its young and renewed team.

No more and no less than the “10” on his back and the captain’s ribbon: Junior Flores was part of this surprising KDT team. In front he had his former club, who took an emergency measure to come to the game with a full team. For this reason, after a decade, veteran Julio once again deployed his chimpanzees to defend his colors. All this he did at the age of 50.

A result just for the anecdote

Atlético Chalaco’s complicated circumstances allowed Julio Flores and his son Junior to officially face off in a Copa Perú match. The two wore the “10” and posed for the photo at the end of a game which added up the score for this postcard: As expected, KDT played much better than their rival and ended up winning 8-0 for them. Four of the goals came in the first half.

The father-son encounter between Julio and Junior Flores was one of Atlético Chalaco’s few colorful anecdotes this season. After clearly losing their first three games, the team decided to withdraw from the tournament on Date 4. For this reason, she did not participate in the Callao District League the following year, precisely on the institution’s 115th anniversary. It only reappeared in 2019 and is still valid today.
