LCF: record performance for this Quebecer

Quebec wide receiver Samuel Emilus was spectacular in a 45-27 loss to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers last Friday.

The Roughriders representative caught three passes for touchdowns, setting a Saskatchewan organizing record. In total, the Montreal native managed seven balls for 78 yards.

“I wish it had happened in a win,” said Emilus, whose comments were reported by Riderville.com. It’s always fun to score a touchdown, but I would have preferred the end result.

Emilus was selected in the first round (seventh overall) of the 2022 draft and was only his fifth start in the Canadian Football League (CFL) against the Blue Bombers.

“He’s been great since the early days of training camp,” quarterback Trevor Harris said of his Quebec teammate. I think people are starting to figure that out.

“He’s funny and explosive. I threw the ball badly on his second touchdown, but he accelerated and dived.

“He told me he was picking himself up for the last week because he felt he missed a catch in the early moments of the game. [contre les Elks d’Edmonton]Harris also said.

It was the first time a Roughriders player had caught more than one touchdown pass in a single game since Jordan Williams-Lambert in September 2018.

Emilus is the 12th athlete in club history to score three Majors from the air and the first since Weston Dressler in 2012.
