Danny Maciocia wants players like Rafael Harvey Pinard

Harvey-Pinard: “I want to play with the Canadiens”

Rafaël Harvey-Pinard caused wide eyes during his last stay with the Canadian. The 24-year-old striker was called back to compensate for the numerous injuries and not only collected points in the statistics. He did the same with supporters and members of the organization.

As a free agent with restrictions, Harvey-Pinard would like to have distinguished himself enough to land a contract that will allow him to remain with the big club. That’s what he told the Journal when we caught up with him on the sidelines of a Canadian Grand Prix promotion.

“There are discussions, but nothing is being done at the moment,” he explained to the author of these lines. My goal, of course, is to sign with the Canadiens. I want to play for the Canadiens next year.”

The Canadian, who was selected in the 7th round in 2019, received $825,000 for each of his first two professional campaigns. It will be interesting to see what his agent’s strategy is.

He will likely want his client to put his name under a short-term contract that would allow him to maximize his earnings on his next contract if he continues down the same upward curve. For Kent Hughes, however, the goal will be to secure Harvey-Pinard’s services over the long term and at a lower cost.

“We will choose what is best for both sides. Both for the team and for me,” said Harvey-Pinard, without wanting to reveal too much.

Although he only played 34 games, he hit the target 14 times. Only Cole Caufield (26), Nick Suzuki (26) and Josh Anderson (21) did better for the Canadian.

Beyond the numbers, he has proven that he has a strong competitive spirit and is not afraid to sacrifice himself for the cause.

In recent weeks, Harvey-Pinard has switched agents and enlisted the services of Philippe Lecavalier. This should greatly improve the channel of communication with Hughes, a good family friend.
