Paolo Bonolis directing Ciao Darwin – Italianotizie.it
Irony, irreverence, ruthlessness, intelligence and dialectics: the unmistakable characteristics of Italy’s most popular presenter.
Paolo Bonolis is surely one of the most beloved faces of Italian television. As historical conductor of Canale 5, he has been part of the Ciao Darwin program for years, in which two heterogeneous groups of people challenge each other in games of physical ability, quizzes on culture and challenges of courage.
The program was born in 1998 thanks to an idea Paolo Bonolis and Stefano Magnaghi. The goal is to pit two teams representing two opposing groups against each other to decide who is stronger, always based on Charles Darwin’s theory of evolution.
The show first aired on October 3, 1998, directed by Bonolis himself, with the participation of his colleague and friend Luca Laurenti, protagonist of many comedy skits, and model Annabelle Susanne Brewka, who plays Mother Nature. The acronym is the song Matti, composed by Renato Zero and Renato Serio, danced by numerous dancers who accompany the entry of the teams.
The television studio is set up like a‘Arena. Bonolis throws 100 non-famous people from two categories (50 people each) against each other. Each team has a captain, usually a VIP.
The clash with the famous colleague
In an interview on the Maurizio Costanzo Show, Bonolis spoke about the allegations against the show: “Ciao Darwin was also accused of vulgarity. Not at all!”. The main accusations come from a person sitting in the front row of the audience: Alessandro Cecchi Paone refers to an episode that he finds very vulgar: “The fight between transvestites and swingers. I was happy to come as a guest.” And Paul, who never misses an opportunity, replies: “Were you among the transvestites or among the swingers?” caused general hilarity in the studio. “I came the week before. That’s the difference: we don’t make jokes like that, you make them,” replies the journalist sitting in the front row.
Returning to the question of his participation in the program, Checchi Paone continues to reproach the conductor: “I came to lead the team of nerds versus bodybuilders. Obviously we won, not the bodybuilders. But then when you slip into that dimension, fall into vulgarity. Then they rewarded you.” Tiberius TimperiSitting next to Alessandro, counters: “Transvestites and swingers are the same aspect of reality, they are part of reality.” Television photographs reality. What is wrong?”

Bonolis’ answer
Paolo does not remain silent when Cecchi Paone provokes him, but replies calmly and serenely: “Do you know what Darwin was like? It was a strain that had a very subtle will, which consisted in trying to detach a little The big lie we live every day, where they tell us that there is good on one side and evil on the other. Where we are told daily that we must have enemies, that they are the ones who are different from us.”
And he continues, “Darwin’s will was to make bets where we had whites versus blacks, we homosexuals versus straights, atheists versus believers, because.” they are all peopleregardless of what they believe, what they want, what they do. And when they play together, you’ve just peeled off the facade of lies. They try to make enemies of us all systematically and culturally. Because those who have enemies are afraid. When you’re scared, you need someone to give you orders. They automatically do nothing but feed a force”
