Israel: Three killed in knife attack east of Tel Aviv

There was another bloody attack in Israel.

On the night of Israel’s Independence Day, three people were killed in the city of Elad (east of Tel Aviv), the Israeli embassy in Germany confirmed on Thursday night.

► The director of the Israeli rescue service Magen David Adom (MDA), Eli Bin, said on Twitter that there are currently “six seriously injured”. There are several MDA teams “on site and treating the wounded”.

A police spokesman said two criminals were believed to be involved in the attack in the strictly religious town of Elad, east of Tel Aviv. One of them fired, another attacked passersby with an axe.

According to the Times of Israel, two men attacked bystanders in a city park. Due to the Independence Day celebrations, many people gathered in the streets of the city.

Police said they suspected the attack was an attack by militants and that the attacker fled in a vehicle. Road blocks were set up in the region. A police helicopter follows a suspicious vehicle.

According to media reports, police are concerned that the criminals may have escaped to the neighboring West Bank. The Hamas ruler in the Gaza Strip hailed the bloody attack over loudspeakers as a “heroic act”.

A wave of terror in Israel has killed 14 people since late March. In recent weeks, there have been repeated attacks by Palestinians and Israeli Arabs. Israel celebrated its 74th Independence Day on Thursday.

The attacks must “finally come to an end,” Uwe Becker, president of the German-Israeli Society, told BILD shortly after the attack in Elad. “Solidarity from Germany and the EU is needed now. Pressure must be brought to bear on the Palestinian side to end this terror. Financial support for Palestinians must be linked to a clear commitment to combating terrorism.”
