“Mission: Impossible – Dead Reckoning Part One” was finally unveiled at a glamorous world premiere in Rome on Monday night, followed by a packed gala screening at the Auditorium della Conciliazione, just a stone’s throw from the Vatican.
The stylish event ran alongside the independently run Alice in the City section of the Rome Film Festival, dedicated to films for young audiences. The film’s local distributor is Eagle Pictures, which has a local distribution partnership with Paramount. Much of the highly anticipated action film was filmed in the Italian capital.
Dead Reckoning Part One follows the events of Fallout, where Tom Cruise’s Ethan Hunt and his crew of undercover agents saved the world from a nuclear apocalypse amidst a series of look-alikes. The 2018 release was the highest-grossing film in the franchise to date, grossing nearly $800 million worldwide.
Cruise will again star in the new film, alongside returning franchise players Ving Rhames, Simon Pegg, Rebecca Ferguson, Henry Czerny and Vanessa Kirby. Newcomers to the series include Hayley Atwell, Pom Klementieff, Cary Elwes, Rob Delaney, Indira Varma, Shea Whigham, Mark Gatiss, Esai Morales and Charles Parnell.
As expected, the film caused quite a stir when it premiered due to its impressive stunts. One of the most prominent death-defying acts promoted in marketing shows Cruise actually falling off a cliff’s edge on a motorcycle.
Simon Pegg, who returns for Dead Reckoning after starring in the previous five episodes, told Variety that the core of the film is Cruise’s relationship with director Christopher McQuarrie, which began with 2011’s Ghost Protocol which McQuarrie served as uncredited author.
“It’s kind of an ever-evolving relationship where they’ve encouraged and challenged each other to push the story forward; increase the scale; increase ambition,” Pegg emphasized.
The seventh “Mission: Impossible” entry will be released by Paramount on July 12th. Reactions to the film are below.

#Impossible mission – Dead Reckoning Part One is another winner for the franchise. Once again the production value is overwhelming as some of the clearest and most exciting set pieces have been photographed in a way that really makes you feel like you’re right in the middle of the action… pic.twitter.com/yAX0eJ1t1t

MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE – DEAD RECKONING PART ONE acts as Christopher McQuarrie’s ambitious inquiry/meditation on AI and the dangerous path we may be on. (He doesn’t like it) With the inherent nature of being “part one” (have said that a lot lately), not as satisfying as FALLOUT

Screenrant’s Joe Deckelmeier said, “Hayley Atwell STANDS every scene she’s in.”
Gizmodo and io9 contributor Germain Lussier called it “amazing,” with a final standard piece that placed in the top two-three in the franchise, though it was “a little tight at times.”

#Impossible mission – Dead Reckoning Part 1 is awesome.
Dynamite, current history. Excellent new characters. Huge variety of action and one final set piece that ranks 2-3rd all time for the franchise.
It gets a bit dense at times, but its pace and intensity more than cover that. pic.twitter.com/prm2wa6ZD6

After the madness of the last movies #MissionImpossible7 There’s an awful lot going on, but one thing I want to say right now in quick-reaction format: it does its best job yet in the current “Part 1 of 2!!” stands out in that it feels like a movie in its own right while you’re waking up prepare the next half.

I had the absolute best time watching #Impossible mission – an impeccably made action film that never stops entertaining. Each action sequence is long, crazy and intense. The story is expansive and sprawling, but I like how it felt complete and wistfully preparing you for what’s to come pic.twitter.com/iNaKlDMH8l

There is a car chase scene #MissionImpossibleDeadReckoning This brought me so much joy, it renewed my love for the summer blockbuster. The craftsmanship of this franchise is second to none. The final move sequence is also killer – I found myself leaning in from my seat.
