The San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department said Monday it is continuing its search for Julian Sands, the veteran actor who disappeared in January while hiking around Mount Baldy, which is in the San Gabriel Mountains less than 50 miles northeast of Los Angeles is located.

Officials said more than 80 search and rescue workers, relief workers and collaborators took part in the search in nearby wilderness and remote areas on the other side of the mountain today. The operation included two helicopters and drone crews. Sands, 65, remains missing.

The search was temporarily suspended after the British actor, a veteran wildlife lover, was reported missing on January 13 due to particularly harsh winter conditions in the western United States. Since Sands’ disappearance, San Bernardino sheriffs said they conducted eight searches to find him. along with eight other surgeries.

“Despite recent warmer weather, parts of the mountain remain inaccessible due to extreme alpine conditions,” the department said today. “Several areas include steep terrain and canyons that still have over 10 feet of ice and snow.”

The sheriff’s department said Sands’ case remains active and limited search efforts are continuing.

Sands is known for his roles in films such as The Killing Fields, A Room with a View, Warlock, Arachnophobia, Boxing Helena and Leaving Las Vegas. On television he appeared in 24, Smallville and Banshee.
