Josh Donaldson could very well retire at the end of this season.

The New York Yankees third baseman said so in an interview with The Athletic on Sunday.

When asked about his plans for the next election campaign, the 37-year-old simply replied: “I don’t know.”

“My decision will depend on how I finish the current season. I also need to talk to my family about it. “A lot of people have asked me the same question before,” said Donaldson, who is in the final year of his four-year, $92 million contract he signed with the Minnesota Twins in 2020.

The former Toronto Blue Jays star has been plagued by injuries this year, limiting him to just 17 games so far. In 60 appearances on the record, he hit just eight, including six homers, and was hit 17 times.

Despite these lackluster statistics, Donaldson is undeterred.

“I often hit the ball hard, but unfortunately a lot of balls got stuck. I feel really good where I am. If I hit the ball with power, I believe that I can still contribute something offensively.

The American is in his 13th season in Major League Baseball. He wore the jersey for the Jays from 2015 to 2018. In his freshman year in Queen City, he won the American League’s Most Valuable Player award.

Since the beginning of his career, Donaldson has hit 272 home runs and 798 RBIs in 1,350 games with the Oakland Athletics, Jays, Cleveland Indians (now Guardians), Atlanta Braves, Twins and Yankees.
