Florida Football Recruitment: Five-Star EDGE Jamonta Waller Engages in Blockbuster for the Gators – OnlyGators.com

A successful recruiting weekend for the Florida Gators reached levels not even head coach Billy Napier could have predicted as the program followed a fireworks Saturday with three signings on Monday – none bigger than the third in that group. Though he planned to announce a commitment in late August, five-star EDGE Jamonta Waller (Picayune, MS) instead decided to make his promise to the Gators after an official visit.

“FAMILY – means having someone who loves you unconditionally despite your shortcomings. It also means investing in relationships and practicing trust. So I have 1000% COMMITMENT to my new family @GatorsFB,” Waller wrote on Twitter.

Waller (1.80 tall, 100 kilograms) signed for Florida in place of Auburn and Penn State, although Alabama, Ole Miss and Texas A&M were top contenders for his services, and it is believed he also has a scheduled official visit canceled in Georgia.

As the fifth blue-chip candidate and third among the top 108 players in the 247Sports Composite to have engaged over the past three days, Waller is entered as a four-star candidate at number 71 on that list. 247Sports internal rankings are even more optimistic, placing him 28th overall as the top player in Mississippi.

Waller’s friendship with four-star running back player Kahnen Daniels (West Point, MS) undoubtedly helped bring him into the roster. Daniels previously committed to the UF on April 10 because of Mississippi State.

Waller’s signing moves Florida up two more spots to 3rd in the 247Sports Composite teams’ standings. The Gators went into the weekend at No. 22, moving up 14 spots to No. 8 on Saturday before moving up to No. 5 on Monday.

Waller is the third five-star contender signed to Florida, alongside quarterback DJ Lagway (Willis, TX), No. 22 overall, and safety Xavier Filsaime (McKinney, TX), No. 32 overall. It’s the first time Florida has signed three such players in the same class since 2012. Waller is also the fifth defender among the top 80 talents in the country, including four linebackers or pass rushers.

On Saturday, the Gators saw a foursome of four-star candidates commit to the program, including linebacker Aaron Chiles (Olney, MD), tight end Amir Jackson (Portal, GA) and defensive linemen Amaris Williams (Clinton, NC ) and Nasir Johnson (Dublin, GA). Earlier Monday, three-star offensive lineman Marcus Mascoll (Snellville, GA) and defensive lineman Michai Boireau (Hampton, GA) signed on. Additionally, three-star high-flyer Mike Williams (Upper Marlboro, MD) and German high-flyer Noel Portnjagin, a top international contender, were signed early last week.

Altogether, Florida has seven missions in the last three days and nine missions in the last eight days.
