The title was awarded this Tuesday (20) in the Spanish city of Valencia, where the best and most renowned chefs took part in the event where the ranking of the 50 best restaurants in the world for 2023 was announced.
Although this edition marked the first Latin American victory, it is also worth noting that it is the worst Brazilian participation on the list since 2015. With the fall of A Casa do Porco, Brazil left the top 10 and now has only three restaurants in the top 10. Top 100 in the world. the carioca lasai improved 20 places and finished in 58th place while the Otequeby chef Alberto Landgraf, fell from 47th place in 2022 to 76th place this year.

the Paulists DOM, Evvai and Maní, who ranked 53rd, 67th and 96th last year, have dropped out of the rankings. Among Brazilians, Alex Atala’s restaurant was the only one to have made the list in all 21 years of the award’s existence in 2012 it even took 4th place, the country’s best performance.
Despite the fall of Brazil, there is still something to celebrate in Latin America. Opened in 2012, Central made the top 50 list just a year after it opened. The menu, which favors typical Peruvian ingredients, references the country’s rugged geography: each dish represents an altitude, from below sea level to over 5,000 meters.
Pía León, one of the chefs at Central, also won with her other restaurant in Lima, the Kjolle (28th), who climbed 40 places and made it into the top 50 for the first time. Don Juliofamous for its parrillas, dropped five places to 19th place.
Since 2002, the list of the 50 best restaurants in the world has been counting the 100 best restaurants in the world according to the criteria of more than a thousand professionals and enthusiasts in the industry. Last year, #1 on the list went to the restaurant geraniumin Copenhagen.
In addition to the award ceremony, a #50BestTalks Thought Leadership Forum took place; the 50 best signature sessions and gastronomic meetings between international and Valencian chefs. Among them the Brazilians from A Casa do Porco Janaina and Jefferson Rueda, who cooked with the young chef Vicky Sevilla, from the Arrels restaurant.
For gourmets, the award also includes the edition of the best restaurants in Latin America, which will be celebrated in Rio de Janeiro on November 28th.
