After recently hiring Peter Laviolette as their new head coach, the New York Rangers have continued to increase their staff behind the bench, hiring Michael Peca as an assistant.
This was reported by Sportsnet network journalist Jeff Marek on Monday evening.
For the man, who was an assistant coach in the American League with the Rochester Americans, this is the first job in the National Hockey League (NHL). Peca stayed with the Buffalo Sabers farm club for two seasons.
The Torontonian, considered by many to be one of the best defensive forwards of the early 2000s, won two Selke Trophies. He had his best years in the NHL between 1995 and 2004 with the Sabers and the New York Islanders.
The 49-year-old also played for the Vancouver Canucks, Edmonton Oilers, Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets.
In the 2022–23 season, the Rangers coaching staff consisted of Gerard Gallant, Mike Kelly and Gord Murphy.
