A shootout broke out Monday night when an attempt was made to steal a bag of money from a Garda truck bound for a counter at the Caisse populaire Desjardins de Chomedey in Laval.

Shortly after midnight, two cash couriers left Garda to deposit money at a Caisse Desjardins counter near Samson Boulevard and Highway 13.

However, a suspect waiting near the scene opened fire in his direction as the Garda agent got out of his truck to drop off the purse.

The two Garda officers then reacted violently to the shots and forced the suspect to flee in an unknown direction.
No injuries were reported in the shooting, said Stephanie Beshara, Laval police spokeswoman.

The attempt to steal money therefore failed, but the nervousness caused by the exchange of fire did not allow the promoters to deposit the money at the Desjardins counter.

A security perimeter has been set up on site to protect the crime scene while waiting for crime scene technicians and investigators to solve the story.
