The stepson of Hamish Harding, a British aviator who is one of five people on the submersible missing in the North Atlantic near the remains of Titanic, was attending a Blink 182 concert during Harding’s disappearance.
Brian Szasz posted a photo of himself outside the concert on Facebook (per PopCrave) and wrote, “It may be awkward to be here but my family wants me to be on the Blink 182 show as it’s my favorite band and music helps me through it.” tough times!”
Harding is one of five people aboard Titan, the dive boat that offers trips to the wrecks of the Titanic for $250,000 per person. The craft was last seen on Sunday June 18 before losing communications with a research vessel. The submersible is said to have started its journey on 96 hours’ worth of oxygen, although at the time of writing it likely has less than 40 hours. Planes from the US and Canada are searching for the craft, but how it would be recovered once discovered is unclear. To recover objects from the sea floor, the US Navy uses a device with a 4,000 pound lifting capacity, and the Titan weighs 20,000 pounds.
The Guardian reports that Szasz is one of Harding’s two stepchildren, while he also has two children with his wife Linda. Harding, 58, is chairman of the aerospace company Action Aviation. In 2021, he and American explorer Victor Vescovo traveled nearly seven miles to the depths of the Mariana Trench, setting a Guinness World Record for the longest time spent in a single dive at the deepest point in the ocean.
