The wife of the CEO of the company OceanGate, Stockton Rush, who was on board the submarine bound for the wrecking of the Titanic, which has disappeared since Sunday, is a descendant of two victims of the 1912 sinking, according to records The New York Times had Access.

Rush is descended from one of Isidor and Ida’s daughters, Minnie, who married Richard Weil in 1905. Their son, Richard Weil Jr., was president of Macy’s in New York, and his son, Richard Weil III, is Rush’s father, Joan Adler, executive director of the Straus Historical Society.

Survivors of the sinking remember Isidor and Ida Straus because they gave up life jackets in favor of the women and children who were still awaiting rescue. Ida even declared that she would not leave her husband, to whom she had been married for four decades. The couple were later seen arm in arm on the deck of the Titanic as the ship sank.

Wendy Rush married Stockton Rush in 1986 and has been on three OceanGate expeditions in the past two years, according to The New York Times based on her LinkedIn profile. In addition to being the company’s communications director, she is also involved in the institution’s charity.

Importantly, time is running out on day four of the search for OceanGate’s submarine. The submersible, which was carrying five passengers on tours to the wreck of the Titanic, still had oxygen as of 12:08 p.m. Thursday, according to the US Coast Guard.

It is noteworthy that Stockton Rush admitted in an interview last year that his biggest fear on these tourist trips was being trapped at the bottom of the sea.
