Before his death, he was hospitalized with severe abdominal pain and tests showed tumors were spreading in his stomach and lungs.

Upon hearing the news of his death, the cast of Caras & Bocas expressed their sadness: “No one knew he was ill, not even his family. His sister who lives in Tubarão [Santa Catarina]arrived in Rio de Janeiro yesterday and died this morning,” Guilhermina Guinle told Terra.

“I was very saddened by this news. He was very cheerful and everyone around him enjoyed his spontaneous nature. In addition, he was very humble and always willing to learn more about acting,” he added.

Walcyr Carrasco, an actor on the soap opera, said he knew about his illness but couldn’t imagine it being that serious.

“I asked Dener if he was angry [o câncer], and when he didn’t answer, I assumed he wasn’t. But today I think he already knew… His big dream was to do a soap opera. During the recording he had some health problems but I couldn’t connect one to the other,” the author commented on his Twitter profile.

“Denis, you’re one of the stars now. You always deserve it here! Thank you for being my friend! You know, you were and are good people. I sincerely hope I fulfilled the dream he had and deserved because he had talent. And if he was happy in that dream, I thank God,” Carrasco added.
