A neat design, but sacrificed
In order to lower the price of its Fan Edition, Samsung has decided to abandon the aluminum frame of the outline and the photo module, opting for all-plastic. However, this plastic coating not only has disadvantages, it also makes the smartphone lighter, which does not prevent flawless workmanship. It is also robust as it has an IP68 certification and Gorilla Glass Victus glass. However, it is necessary to provide a shell because the plastic is easily scratched.
Thanks to the know-how of the South Korean manufacturer, who makes its own panels, the screen exudes premium. This 6.4-inch AMOLED panel has a Full HD+ resolution (2340 x 1080 pixels) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz. With the infinite contrast ratio, the maximum brightness of 700 cd/m² and the colorimetry are excellent. Suffice it to say that this screen is a marvelous sight whether for browsing, watching a series or playing a game.
The performance of the Snapdragon 888
While the classic S21 ran with an Exynos 2100 SoC, the South Korean manufacturer uses Qualcomm and its Snapdragon 888. This processor is supported here by 6 GB of RAM. If the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE can chain basic tasks smoothly and without loss of performance, it is easily dominated by the classic S21 in the gaming area. In our test, it struggled a bit running Fortnite at 60 FPS, and some slowdowns persisted even at 30 FPS.
On the back of the Samsung Galaxy S21 FE there is a successful and versatile photo module, there is a 12 Mpx main sensor, a 12 Mpx ultra wide-angle lens and an 8 Mpx x3 telephoto lens. It also has a 32 Mpx front sensor, but it is more restrictive than anything else and, above all, not the best module of this smartphone. Finally, the move to the Snapdragon 888 may not have been entirely good, especially in terms of autonomy. Thanks to the 4,500 mAh battery, you can charge this smartphone every night before bed.
