Indian police are investigating an alleged fraudster who spent almost two years without pay at a fivestar hotel and apparently bribed staff to manipulate records, local media reported on Thursday.
Ankush Dutta booked a room at Roseate House Hotel in New Delhi on May 30, 2019 and was due to depart the next day.

He extended his stay by 603 nights until his departure on January 22, 2021, leaving an unpaid bill for 5.8 million Indian rupees, which is BRL 338,000 at current exchange rates.

“The falsification of the accounts was done to disguise the actual outstanding debt,” the police complaint said, as quoted by the Indian Express newspaper.
The hotel managers also filed charges against several employees for conspiracy, forgery and fraud.
Employees said they suspected employees had been bribed to manipulate internal computer systems.
It was not possible to contact Roseate House officials immediately.
