The UN Security Council will hold a session on Thursday to analyze the Ukraine conflict, which is expected to be attended by the multilateral organization’s Secretary General, António Guterres.

The meeting was sponsored by the United States, which holds the Presidency of the Council this month.
Guterres is to update the council on his recent visits to Russia and Ukraine, during which he intended to take steps to resolve the conflict.

Last week, the UN leader met with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in Kyiv.
At both meetings, António Guterres reiterated his call for an end to hostilities in eastern Ukraine.
Guterres took the opportunity to discuss the protocols that allow for the arrival of humanitarian aid and the evacuation of civilians from the confrontation zones.
The US will take over the presidency of the UN Security Council this month.

Days after the start of Russia’s special military operation in Ukraine, the US and its allies have imposed a series of sanctions on Russia, a country they want to appear as solely responsible for the conflict in Ukraine.
