Is it really professional wrestling when someone isn’t upset about something? CM Punk’s return to AEW Collision on June 17, not to mention his appearance on Dynamite the following Wednesday night, apparently drew mixed reactions. In this week’s Wrestling Observer Newsletter, Dave Meltzer reported that a “top name” left a bad mood on “Dynamite” on Wednesday.
Punk’s return at last Saturday’s “Collision” debut was his first AEW appearance since All Out last September, a night that ended in a heated media skirmish as well as a behind-the-scenes brawl involving Kenny Omega of The Elite and The Young Bucks, Ace Steel, and The Best In The World itself. Steel was subsequently released while The Elite was banned from television until over a month later on the pay-per-view program Full Gear” returned last November. Meanwhile, Punk stayed away recovering from injury until the latest AEW program was launched.
However, even though all of the talent involved in “Brawl Out” were kept separate on Wednesday night, to the point that The Elite only performed via pre-taped segments, that didn’t stop the “top name” in question from staying believing this agreement It won’t work out in the long run. Meltzer noted that the person described the situation as a “ticking time bomb” that will not end well.
Dax Harwood, one-half of FTR and a man who has teamed up with Punk for his second leg, in a tweet on Friday fought back any reported “discord” on Wednesday night.
“If there’s a ‘discord’ that a particular person is reporting, I haven’t seen it AT ALL,” Harwood wrote. “Also check out Collision’s locker room. This is a family.”
