The outcome of a heinous crime in which a teenage girl accused of killing her child has just been found guilty of murder. Paris Mayo, who was 15 at the time, collapsed upon hearing the verdict.
The young woman from Britain, who is now 19, denied knowing about her pregnancy throughout the process, the Chron reports.
Their child, named Stanley, was conceived in the fall of 2018, according to the Crown. The accused, for her part, stated that she was not feeling well, that she had stomach and back pain.
Paris Mayo’s attorney asked her during the trial if she knew she was pregnant at any time before the birth of her child.
“No, I’ve always been afraid of the idea that it could be me. I never took a test,” she told the jury under oath.
The young woman gave birth to her child in her parents’ living room. “He wasn’t crying, he wasn’t making a sound, and his eyes weren’t open. (..) I panicked because he didn’t cry and I got very scared. It all happened so fast I can’t really remember it,” Paris Mayo said, according to the Chron.
“I just remember him hitting his head and it really is. When I untied it, the umbilical cord was around her neck and that’s where it snapped,” she adds.
“Stanley had fractured skulls. Did you do it to him on purpose?” advanced the QC. “No,” replied the defendant. The jury didn’t believe his version.
Paris Mayo would have put his foot on the infant’s skull on March 23, 2019 and fractured his bones. Then she put five cotton swabs in his mouth. Two pieces were found deep in the child’s throat.
She then put the little body in a garbage bag and left it on the family’s doorstep before they went to bed.
It was her mother who looked into the bloodstained pouch and made the gruesome discovery.
