America’s oldest brewery reminds beer lovers that their “story has no one else”

FOX Business’ Jeff Flock reports from the Yuengling Brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania to speak with the Yuengling sisters, who run America’s oldest beer company.

Since 1829, Yuentling’s flagship brewery in Pottsville, Pennsylvania, has served a product that brings Americans and families together.

“It’s our story,” Debbie Yuengling, manager of employee engagement and culture at Yuengling, told FOX Business’ Jeff Flock on Wednesday’s Mornings with Maria. “We have a history that nobody else has. We’re America’s oldest brewery, six generations back, and we’re very excited and proud of it.”

“We’re very fortunate,” said Wendy Yuengling, chief administrative officer. “We’re the sixth generation in a family business, working side-by-side with our father, which not many family businesses can say.”

Debbie and her sisters – Jennifer, Sheryl and Wendy – run America’s oldest brewery as Yuengling celebrates its 194th birthday this year. And despite its age, the sisters can say the Pottsville site can still produce 900 cans of beer per minute.

The German-originated beer brand’s name means “young man” in English, which one Yuengling sister sees as rather ironic.

“I think that’s part of our history. We are America’s oldest brewery, six generations and now four women who will run the brewery,” Debbie said.

To mark the company’s milestone, Yuengling released a limited edition 12-ounce can featuring “Let’s Go USA” and a Stars and Stripes design.

The branding move follows Bud Light’s decision to send transgender social media influencer Dylan Mulvaney a commemorative pack of beer with his face on the can, prompting consumer and market backlash. Last week, Bud Light sales fell 24.4% year over year.

On the other hand, the Yuengling sisters confirmed that they remain America’s number one craft brewer, selling more beer than any other US brand at over 2.2 billion barrels a year.

Country music star John Rich, who owns Nashville-based bar Redneck Riviera, told The Big Money Show on Wednesday that Bud Light has “gone to zero” with its customers.

“No one would buy it. And guess what they’re buying now? Yuengling,” Rich said. “Many people [are] Moving to Yuengling so we are proud to have such a brand at Redneck Riviera.”

Although the brewery was founded by the sisters’ great-great-great-grandfather and the industry remains largely male-dominated, Sheryl – who runs the ordering service – expressed that it’s “a fun business”.

Showing how successful the family has remained over the years, the Yuengling sisters know it’s because of the proud, patriotic bond they’ve forged at the top.

“We have the oldest brewery in America. No one else can tell,” Debbie said. “We have great employees and very loyal customers.”
