Karl Stefanovic announces when he will return to the Today show amid falling ratings

An ‘excited’ Karl Stefanovic reveals when he’ll return to ‘Today’ after partying at a social wedding in Paris – as Sunrise continues to dominate the ratings battle: ‘I’m fat and rested and ready to romp.’

Karl Stefanovic will return to his presenting duties on the Today show this week.

Chron Australia has learned Stefanovic will return to Channel Nine’s breakfast program on Tuesday morning.

“I’m fat and rested and ready to go,” the popular personality, 48, was heard telling friends on Sunday.

“Brekkie TV is a marathon. A really fun non-running marathon. “My kind of marathon,” he continued. “I’m ready to get in.”

Karl was also heard joking about gaining weight on holiday after attending the society wedding of the year in Paris.

“Anyone know how to lose 10 kilos in one night,” he was heard joking.

Charles Croucher and James Bracey have represented the TV veteran during his absence.

Today saw the highest ratings in four weeks with Karl’s absence, rising to 191,760 viewers on Monday.

However, there is still competition from Sunrise as the series is gaining more attention thanks to new host Matt Shirvington, who recently replaced David “Kochie” Koch.

Sunrise surpassed Today by 66,000 viewers ahead of the five capitals during the first episode of Shirvington on June 12.

By June 19, that lead had increased by a further 10,000, bringing 245,192 viewers to Sunrise.

It comes after Karl left town for the lavish society wedding of multimillionaire chicken heiress Tamie Ingham and chef Guillaume Brahimi in Paris.

Stefanovic, who has long been friends with Brahimi after being introduced by mutual acquaintance James Packer, acted as host at the lavish wedding, which spanned two rowdy days and culminated in a reception at the famous Maxim’s bistro.

The father-of-four was photographed enjoying himself with his wife Jasmine in the French capital as he first attended a welcome soiree at iconic Girafe Paris restaurant on Tuesday night.

He was seen arriving for the ceremony at the sprawling Mondee Museum the following day, where Brahimi officially tied the knot with Tamie – a member of the Ingham chicken family who sold the poultry business in 2013 for $800 million.

Karl and Jasmine, who stayed at the Hotel Costes for $13,000 a night during their stay in Paris, spent a total of two weeks abroad.
